Rid yourself of unsightly razor burn with Tend Skin!

IMG_0735If you haven’t tried Tend Skin yet, you must! Before I found this awesome product, I suffered from serious razor burn and ingrown hairs EVERYWHERE I shaved or waxed. It was painful, ugly, and embarrassing (especially in “sensitive areas”).

Then one day I was wandering around a Sephora store, and I saw this glowing blue bottle that promised to reduce “unsightly razor bumps, ingrown hairs, and redness.” I bought it, of course.

When I’ve used this product correctly, I have seen my razor burn clear up 100%. Seriously, it makes my skin so soft and clear, even after shaving! I’ve tried Bikini Zone, Witch Hazel, Benadryl Anti-Itch cream, all of which supposedly clear up razor burn. Nothing worked anywhere near as well as Tend Skin.

Although it doesn’t irritate MY skin at all, the product may be harsh on sensitive skin types. I gave it to my friend Brittany right after she had a bikini wax and the product stung so badly she was practically crying. Seeing as alcohol is one of the most potent ingredients in Tend Skin, Brittany’s reaction is not surprising. (Have you ever used alcohol to clean a cut? OUCH!)

I would suggest testing it on a small area before you rub it all over your bikini line, just in case it does irritate you. But like I said before, it doesn’t bother me. Whenever it does sting a tad, the sensation goes away almost immediately.

Tend Skin is applied to dry skin, via cotton ball (see image above) immediately after showering or shaving. It takes almost no time to use, and is colorless and dries almost immediately.

Apparently the product was discovered by a dentist in 1985, when he used a similar formula on a patient, resulting in the surprising side effect of clear skin. Volia! Tend Skin was created!

Two more great things about Tend Skin: It is designed for men AND women, and it can also be used to clear up other parts of your body (that you haven’t shaved) if you find yourself coming down with a pimple or two.

Tend Skin can be found at Sephora stores, online, and on Amazon. It costs around $13. But don’t let the high price scare you off… a little bit of Tend Skin goes a long way!

Frothy shampoos are killing your hair, switch to sulfate-free!

I made the switch from Herbal Essences to ENJOY Sulfate-Free!

I made the switch from Herbal Essences to ENJOY Sulfate-Free!

If you’ve been using shampoos such as Herbal Essences, SunSilk, Suave, Dove, VO5, Pert Plus, Pantene, etc… there’s something you should know!

Most of these shampoos contain ‘sulfates!’

A myth that needs to be abolished immediately is that shampoos that make your hair extra foamy are, in turn, making your hair extra clean. The truth is, bubbles have NOTHING to do with how well a shampoo is working. I know this realization is super counter-intuitive, but trust me. Frothy shampoos, by nature, strip your hair of its natural oils and whatever color you’re trying to maintain. The suds that you feel are actually the result of detergents put into the shampoo. These detergents are known as ‘sulfates.’ All of the brands I mentioned above, and many others, contain sulfates. Although they may not be life-threatening, they are definitely hair-threatening.

The reason so many of these popular shampoos contain sulfates is that they create big bubbles and are very cheap to use. It wasn’t until more recently that people actually started researching what ingredients are in their cosmetics. All findings point to the same conclusion: Stay away from sulfates in your hair, face, and body products!!!!

COMMON red flag ingredients to avoid (borrowed from killerstrands):

Sodium Lauryl Sulfate

Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate

Ammonium Laureth Sulfate

Ammonium Xylene Sulfonate

TEA Lauryl Sulfate
Sulfur (in dandruff shampoos)

Selenium Sulfide (in dandruff shampoos)

Go look at your shampoo right now. Does it have any of these red flag ingredients? Chances are, it does.

Don’t be discouraged by this blog post though, there are still plenty of affordable and even CHEAP shampoos easily available, which don’t contain sulfates. I just traded in my Herbal Essences Shampoo for a shampoo I found at Safeway called “ENJOY Sulfate-Free Hydrating Shampoo.”

Some safe and affordable shampoos to use (list borrowed from killerstrands):

ABBA-’True Curls’ 10oz : $11.25
ALFA PARF-’Splendore-Hydrate’ 9oz:$15.49
ALTERNA – ‘Hemp Seed & Cavier’10oz:$16.99
BROCATO – ‘Splash’ 10oz:$9.45
DEVA -’Curl Low Poo’ 12oz:$13.50
ENJOY- all Sulfate-Free 10oz:$12.99
J BEVERLY HILLS – ‘Fragile-Colour-Safe’ : 12 oz : $13.05
JONATHAN – ‘Moisture’ 8.4oz : $20.00
KENRA – ‘Platinum’ 10oz : $14.40
L’ANZA -’Healing Colour Care’ 8oz:$16.50
MASTEY- ‘Enove Creme Shampoo’ 8oz:$9.90
OLE HENRICKSEN – ‘Natural Hair Wash’ 12oz:$22.00
OSMO- ‘Essence Blinding Shine’ 9.5oz:$10.99
PAVES PROF- ‘Flawless’ 8oz:$5.99
PRAVANA-’colour, hydrating, volumizing’ 10oz. $12.55
PUREOLOGY-all 3 types 10oz : $21.60
SEXY HAIR- ‘Healthy Sexy Soy Milk Chocolate’ 13oz: $14.75
TREASURED LOCKS-’Nothing but Nature’ Shampoo 10oz : $11.99
ZERRAN- ‘Sulfate-Free’ 8oz : $16.50

I’m also willing to bet that one of the biggest changes in shampoos this year will be new labels saying “Sulfate-free.” So if you don’t see your favorite brand of shampoo listed in the list above, it’ll probably start making a sulfate-free product soon.

Water is the cause of hair color fading but Nexxus has the cure!

Dualiste
Breaking news!
According to mybeautyberry.com, water is the true culprit behind hair color fading! Although most people think that sun is to blame for your freshly dyed tresses becoming dull and colorless, it’s been proven that water has a much bigger effect on them. Washing your hair with normal, drugstore shampoos is actually removing the $200 dye job you just got done… who would have thought?! Even most color protecting shampoos are not formulated to protect from the damage of H2O. Instead, they have SPF in them to protect from UV rays, which is useless against water.

The solution?
Nexxus proprietary technology CPF (Color Protection Factor). This line is intended to minimize the color fade that water causes. Apparently, the shampoo forms a barrier against H2O, preventing it from getting into the hair shaft. According to the simple test done at mybeautyberry.com, the shampoo actually works!

Try it for yourself!
Visit http://www.nexxus.com/Products/Dualiste for details on the Dualiste line of color protection shampoos and conditioners. Nexxus Salon Hair Care products are available in your hair care aisle at grocery, drug, mass, and club retailers across the US.

Preventing color fading is most important for brunettes and redheads, because light hair doesn’t fade as easily as dark.

Of course, the best way to protect your hair color is to wash it less often, period. But obviously, you’re going to have to break down and get your hair wet sometimes. That’s where Nexxus comes in.

Get Rid of Oily, Shiny Skin with Murad’s Oil-Control Mattifier

oil-control-mattifier-spf-15_1

One of my biggest insecurities about my skin is my shiny, oily forehead. Sadly, I find that there is little I can do to reduce the size of my pores so I may be stuck with oily skin for the rest of my life. (I even carry Clean & Clear Oil Absorbing Sheets, $5.29 at drugstore.com or at any grocery store, around in my purse on a day-to-day basis. They are a fabulous quick fix, but have the tendency to remove your foundation and only provide short-term relief from shine.)

But, when I stumbled across a product that promised to “protect skin while providing all day oil control,” I was eager to give it a try.

Murad’s Oil-Control Mattifier SPF 15 promises to “eliminate shine on contact” and “reduce excess oil by up to 78% for 8 hours.” Although skeptical, I gave it a whirl.

I highly recommend this product because of it’s staying power, versatility, and of course, how well it works. Not only did it eliminate shine on my forehead for most of the day, but it works as a wonderful primer for makeup, and provides UVA/UVB protection.

I noticed a huge difference in my skin’s appearence and feel immediatly after I began using this product. It has become a staple in my morning routine.

Oily skin, although a pain in the ass, can be overcome. If I can do it, you can too!

  • What? Murad Oil-Control Mattifier SPF 15
  • Where to buy and how much $$? Sephora.com and dermadoctor.com sell it for $39.50
