An attractive way to store makeup brushes

If you’re anything like me, you have some trouble keeping your makeup workstation clean and organized. Yes, there are a lot of makeup organizers out there that I could buy, but let’s face it: most of them are U-G-L-Y.

As a working woman, I’m pressed for time in the morning. To maximize my morning efficiency, I want my beauty supplies to be right there where I can see them. That’s why I keep everything I use regularly in this basket (pictured below), perched up on my Target shelves that Carter installed when we first moved in and realized our bathroom had no storage space. And up until about a month ago, I kept my makeup brushes in the basket too.

Before

My makeup brushes were mixed in with all of this makeup. They would get buried and were always impossible to find in the mornings when I was in a rush. In addition, they were getting squished and dirty.

I don’t want to have to go digging and fishing through drawers and boxes and baskets to find what I’m looking for. I want to be able to find it right away. I also want my workstation (I’m sure Carter would be thoroughly appalled that I’m calling our bathroom a workstation) to look pretty. Is that too much to ask?

After months of frustration, I finally decided to do something about my predicament. I went to Michael’s Craft Store and purchased a glass candle bowl with pretty details, and some small glass stones. It was a simple solution that has worked out so well. I now have an attractive storage solution for my makeup brushes.

After

My makeup brushes are a lovely complement to my jewelry station, when I actually put them away. (But usually, they get left in the bathroom on our counter.)

Makeup brush holder materials from Michael’s, earring stand from Urban Outfitters, necklace stand from Urban Outfitters (this is a similar one), tray from Michaels, makeup brushes from Bare Minerals (although I need some new ones), jewelry from an array of different places (feel free to ask me about specific pieces)

Now I’m looking for a solution for my makeup basket so that it doesn’t look like a bomb went off in there! Do you have any suggestions?

I use a small drawer tote. Its not that cute but its easier to organize your makeup. I have one with 3 drawers that separates foundations, eyeshadows and eyeliner’s/lip products. I attached a link to show you what I mean. You can buy them separately in the store. I also found this while I was looking that is kind of cute. http://www.minilink.me/28935/

Hope this helps!

Here’s the 3 drawer tote

I only put my every day makeup in my basket and keep specialty items, weekend wear etc. in another container. At least that way the things I need every day are neat and somewhat tidy. BTW I love your brush holder and beads idea! Thanks

@Chantel – Thanks for the tip! I like your drawer idea. It seems like a really practical way to stay organized.

@Mona – It’s a good idea to keep your everyday makeup separated from your special occasion makeup. That was the original intent of my basket, but it’s gotten pretty disorganized since I’ve added things to it. I think it’s time for some spring cleaning for me!

That is super cute — I usually store mine in a glass inside the cabinet. I’m jealous that your jewelry is so organized — mine is definitely not!

@Katy, Thanks! I like the glass cabinet idea because it allows you to actually see your makeup. I always forget about things I own when they’re in drawers or baskets. And as far as my jewelry goes, I’d call it organized chaos more than organized. Everything is hung really randomly but I actually like that look. It’s just nice having jewelry stands that display your stuff, instead of hiding it!

Such a pretty way to display your makeup brushes! I keep mine in a coffee mug lol
