Bare Mineral’s MATTE Foundation is Much Better for Oily Skin

I always appreciate it when companies take consumer criticisms to heart and use them to improve their products. Bare Minerals did just that with its new matte foundation.

I’ve been an avid user of Bare Escentuals (Bare Minerals) original foundation in “fairly light” for almost two years now. I’ve tried liquid foundations in the past, but I hated the way they felt thick, caked on my skin and required extra effort and skill to apply. Simply put, I don’t have the patience for liquid foundations.

One thing I love about Bare Minerals is that none of its foundations are liquid based; they’re all mineral powders. But unlike other powders, they cover as well as liquids and take mere seconds to apply. And unlike liquid foundations, Bare Minerals allows you to adjust the level of foundation coverage that you want. This makes Bare Minerals great for all types of makeup wearers, whether you like the natural look, or more concealed coverage.

But as a person with oily skin, the added “sheen” of the original Bare Minerals foundation did nothing to absorb the oil on my skin. I thought this was just something I was going to have to deal with. But recently, the company came out with an alternative to its original foundation that blew me away: The “Bare Minerals MATTE SPF 15 Foundation.” I’ve been using this new product for a few months now and I’m obsessed with it!

The matte foundation formula is infused with a RareMinerals Active Soil Complex that helps absorb oil and shine without making your skin dry. For me, this is perfect because if I try to over mattify my skin, it becomes a flaky mess!

The matte foundation comes in 22 shades (Wow!) so you’re pretty much guaranteed to find one that complements your unique skin color. Bare Minerals recommends that you go into one of its stores or another beauty store (like Sephora) to be matched with the correct foundation shade.

I give this product a 10/10 because it is easy to wear, covers imperfections nicely AND absorbs oil!

For those of you normal to dry skinned people out there, the award-winning original Bare Minerals foundation works just as well, but doesn’t absorb excess oil.

The matte foundation costs $28.00 on Bareescentuals.com.

XOXO,

    Sarah,

My daughter raves about this product and I don’t think she knows about the Matte, can’t wait to have one up on her about her favorite product.

I think this is my next make up. Thank you for the overview.

    My best to you,

hello, first time reader of your FABULOUS blog… I love it, as an incurable product junkie.

I use bare minerals and love it, all of it. I was SO excited to hear about matte, and now it is the only one I buy.

I can’t adequately describe how much better I like it than the original (which I have no complaints about, loved it for years), but when they say matte they mean it! :) it’s like an airbrushed smooth look to my face…

I use it with Smashbox primer (another FABULOUS product, have you used??) and they work VERY well together.

Thanks for your blog, I will be a regular reader! :)

    Hi Kristina-

It’s always good to hear from another product junkie.

I have heard fantastic things about Smashbox primer from some of my friends, but I’ve never tried it. I currently use Murad’s mattifier as a makeup primer, because it keeps my skin from getting oily throughout the day. Does the Smashbox primer work well on oily skin, too?

    Sarah
