Rain Boots Outfit
8 comments
As much as I like to complain about the weather here in Portland, I really do love the rain. Yes – people think that’s weird. I hear my friends say all the time that they’re not sure how much more of this they can take. And occationally, I feel that way too.
But if I don’t do my hair that day (as I clearly didn’t for these photos), I’m not wearing shoes that are about to get ruined, and I don’t have anywhere else important that I need to be – there’s really nothing more fun than getting caught in a bit of a downpour. Honestly, it’s liberating.
So cheers to making the best out of crumby weather, wearing rain boots as if they were regular shoes, and channeling your inner Gene Kelly by singing in the rain!

8 Cute & Stylish Rain Boots You’ll Want to Own

Thanks to the torrential downpour that has plagued Portland this past week (okay – perhaps I’m being a bit dramatic), I’ve been sporting my rain boots quite a bit lately.
Rain boots, which used to be no more than a functional (and awkward) necessity, have in the past few years morphed into quite the fashion statement. I wear mine with skinny jeans tucked in, leggings, skirts, dresses – you name it!
No matter your rain boot needs – tall, short, statement-making or subtle – there’s a stylish pair out there for you! These are a few of my favorites. Each is functional, fashionable, and downright adorable. (I own #2 and #8!)

2. Mel By Melissa Rain Boot ($58)
3. Rain and Shine Boot ($52.99)
4. Tretorn Rain Boot ($65)

6. Target Rain Boots ($24.99)
7. LR Rain Boot in ‘Black’ ($195)
8. Tall Burberry Check Rainboots ($225)
There are a couple of directions you can go with rain boots, depending on the look you’re going for. You can embrace the whimsical and classic ‘rain boot’ look and go for a pair like the Tretorn boots (above – #4). Or you can opt for a more subtle pair, which look more like booties than rain gear, a la the Mel by Melissa (#2) – and #1 and #3 as well. Or there’s the styles (like the UO Zip-Up (#5) or the LR boot (#7)) that resemble riding boots and have been very popular this year.
Personally, I lean toward the pairs that resemble riding boots or booties because I think you can get the most milage out of them (they aren’t just travel shoes – you can wear them at your final destination, too!) But either way swing it, with any of these boots, you’ll be totally stylish and can’t really go wrong.
Which are your favorites? Or do you own a pair of rain boots already? If you do, where do you wear them and what do you wear them with?
Dana Robinson Jewelry: Outfit #3
4 comments
This is the third and final outfit I styled for my collaboration with Dana Robinson Jewelry. This outfit reflects my real-life style pretty accurately. I probably own about 25 different blazers that I rotate through, what seems like millions of white t-shirts, tons of skinny jeans, and a plethora of sky-high heels in various styles and colors. So on any given evening, it’s a safe bet that I’m wearing something that looks a lot like what I’m wearing here. Boring, I know. But this low-maitnence, tried-and-true style always looks good (on everyone) and allows jewelry and accessories to shine.
In case you missed them, don’t forget to check out the first and second outfits I styled with Dana and Anna of Dana Robinson Jewelry.
Oh and before I forget – I’m talking about transitioning your outfit from the office to happy hour over on Vogue & Vodka today! Check it out here!
In this outfit I’m wearing…
Necklaces: Mixed Pyrite Double Chain Necklace & Cannon Ball Necklace (ask her about it!)
Bracelets: Vins Cuff & Pyrite Layering Bangle
Ring: Urban Victorian Button ring
Clothes:
H&M blazer (similar style)
James Perse T-Shirt
Free People jeans (similar style)
Steve Madden pumps
All photos were taken by Anna Harris.
To see more photos of the outfits that I styled with Dana Robinson, check out her blog post about our photo shoot!
Do you have a certain style or look that you find yourself returning to time and time again? I think we all take comfort in consistency. With some variations, this is most definitely mine.
Leopard Pants Outfit

These leopard pants make a statement on their own – so I didn’t think it was necessary to wear anything else that’s too loud at the same time. To keep the outfit looking at least somewhat mature and adult (printed pants can scream childish if you’re not careful) I paired them with a classic white button up, tasteful clutch, and pumps with a classic silhouette.
Speaking of my jeans – don’t they look EXACTLY like the Current/Elliot pair that has been popping up all over the blogospehere lately? But I’ll let you in on a little secret… These are about $150 cheaper! Yes, you heard me right. I’m wearing Target’s practically identical version of the famous leopard-print jeans, for a fraction of the price. Now that’s what I call savvy! (Unfortunately, the Target version is out of stock online. Similar styles: here, here, and here.)
Now I’d like to shift some attention over to the chain necklace. I love supporting independent designers so I was thrilled to style an outfit featuring this chain necklace from Sarah of SaritaChickita. All of her pieces are handmade, totally on-trend (chains, pastels, neons, two-tones – you name it, she’s got it!), and ridiculously affordable (we’re talking under $30 here)!
I’m of the opinion that everyone needs a couple chain necklaces for spring because they bring a touch of interest to literally ANY outfit. So her pieces are perfect.
You can buy SaritaChiakita jewlery from Sarah’s Etsy shop online.

Would you wear leopard pants? If yes, how would you style them? Do tell. I’m very open to more ideas!
Dana Robinson Jewelry: Outfit #2

It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s… Me?!?! (I couldn’t resist!) Anyway, this is the second of three outfits I styled during my collaboration with Dana and Anna from Dana Robinson Jewelry.
This is pretty much my ideal spring outfit because it’s feminine, breezy, and super comfortable. By coincidence, comfortable turned out to be the most important criteria for me during this photo shoot because Dana and Anna had me jumping off concrete blocks (hence the flying picture), climbing down rocks into the Willamette River and doing all sorts of crazy things that a real model would have done gracefully – but left me tripping all over myself. Typical.
Despite the dangers they put me through (just kidding!), I had a great time styling this look with them and as always, Dana’s beautiful jewelry completed the outfit!
And as the case happens to be, my flying photo got chosen to be the featured photo for her homepage (and spring collection)! So I thought that was pretty sweet. See for yourself.
In case you missed it, check out last week’s post with the first outfit we styled featuring Dana Robison Jewelry and learn more about Dana and her beautiful handmade pieces.
In this outfit I’m wearing…
Ring: Urban Victorian Button Ring
Bracelets: Diamond Layering Bangle & Pyrite Layering Bangle
Ring: Golden Embai Ring
Clothes:
Forever 21 skirt (similar style here and here)
Forever 21 blouse (similar style)
Indigo by Clarks Booties (the ones I am wearing are on sale here and in suede here here with limited sizes available)
Like I said last week, you really can wear Dana’s jewelry with everything. As you look at this week’s and last week’s outfits side by side and how different they are, you’ll see what I mean.
Disclosure: All jewelry was loaned to me for the shoot, and all the clothes are my own. I was given some jewelry as compensation for these posts, but the opinions expressed are my own.
Nordstrom Spring 2012 Designer Preview Fashion Show – Portland
4 comments
I had SUCH a great time at the Nordstrom Fashion Show last night with Boyfriend and our friends Matt and Adi. The boys cleaned up good (don’t they look nice?!) and it was fun to have an excuse to put on a dress. I honestly can’t think of a better way to spend a Thursday evening than surrounded by fashion, friends, and fruity cocktails. Highlights of the evening included not only the runway show itself, but Adi and my getting the opportunity to play dress up in Dolce & Gabanna, Oscar de la Renta, and Missoni.
The show benefitted the Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU) and all of the ticket proceeds went to the OHSU Center for Women’s Health. Boyfriend’s mom, Julie, was the event’s Co-Chair. And Matt’s mom, Ann, is one of the event’s Founding Fashionistas.
I won’t pretend to be an expert on high fashion (I tend to feature more mainstream-commercial fashion on my blog) but I can tell you that the runway show was absolutely divine. The featured designers included Chanel, Burberry Prorsum, Marni, Dolce & Gabbana, Oscar da la Renta, Drier Van Noten, Missoni, Lanvin, Marc Jacobs and Gucci.
Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to get any shots worth sharing of the runway because all I had was my iPhone camera. But we did manage to take some photos during the cocktail hours.
We played dress up…
I have to thank liquid courage gained from all the Creamsicle Cocktails (so delicious – recipe here) for my bravery to do this, but Adi and I grabbed a few of our favorite multi-thousand dollar dresses from the show and marched on over to the dressing stations to try them on. (A girl can dream, right?!)
What I wore to the show…
I thought it best not to try to compete with the runway, so I kept it simple.
Dress: H&M (similar style)
Blazer: H&M
Jewelry: Thrifted earrings (similar style) & Dana Robinson ring (c/o)
Bag: Kate Spade
Shoes: Mojo Moxi (pictured below)
I’d like to extend a special thank you to Matt and Adi for inviting us! It was easily the highlight of my week!
Replacing my faux-leather jacket
5 comments
Okay, so here’s an embarrassing little tid bit about me: I have a serious problem with loosing jackets. Just last month when I was in Israel, I left a brand new Zara blazer behind at a club, my first time wearing it. (Just ask anyone on the trip with me – I wouldn’t shut up about it.)
And right before leaving for Israel, I left my favorite faux leather jacket behind at a bar in Portland.
And just a few days ago, I left my rain coat at my friend Joani’s house without a second thought.
Yep – that’s three jackets in the span of a month. That’s got to be some sort of record, right? Wow, I’m so lame.
You’re probably wondering why I’m sharing this with you. It’s not just because I’m warning you not to buy me expensive jackets. (Well, that too…) But believe it or not, my rant about my irresponsibility is actually the back story for today’s post.
I don’t really need any more blazers (I have about a million in my closet – see here). And I can easily get my rain coat back from Joani. But I DO really, really miss my faux leather jacket (last seen in this outfit post). Unfortunately, Target doesn’t sell it in my size anymore (yes – it was a Target jacket). But there are some other options out there that I’ve been eyeing, as seen below. I’m considering going with more of a moto jacket style this time, for something a little different.
Nixon Alexa Moto Jacket ($140)
Obey Moto Jacket ($94) – They’re out of my size in the black, and I really love the tan, but it’s not exactly what I was looking for.
Obey Studded Jacket ($108) – This one comes with an attached hoodie, which I’m not sure how I feel about…
Sparkle & Fade Faux Leather Hooded Bomber (
Which is your favorite? I’m leaning toward the Obey Moto Jacket, but I really can’t decide! Help!
Dana Robinson Jewelry: Outfit #1

Even if I’m wearing one of my favorite outfits, I feel incomplete without the proper accessories: necklaces, bracelets, earrings and rings have the power to take a look to the next level. Jewelry adds soul to whatever you have on – breathing life into your style.
That is why I’m thrilled to be doing a collaboration with a local jewelry company, Dana Robinson Jewelry! Dana’s jewelry transcends the fantasy world you want to live in (check out the photos on her website and you’ll see what I mean!) into the practical world we call reality. What I love most about her pieces is that although they’re fun and whimsical, they’re also extremely wearable in everyday life. Dressed up or dressed down, they bring chic to any outfit.
About Dana Robinson Jewelry:
All of Dana’s pieces are handmade, making each one unique. She has thee primary collections of jewelry: Vin, Embai, and Nimue.
In addition, Dana creates a truly beautiful and original collection of Urban Victorian button rings. The rings are created from collectable vintage buttons, making them truly special. The Urban Victorian rings were even featured in Oregon’s Bride and Groom Magazine in spring 2011. (I’m not wearing any Urban Victorian rings in this outfit, but you’ll see them in later looks.)
About this series of outfit posts:
I was given the oppertunity to style Dana’s jewlery into three totally different looks that I thought my readers would relate too. Dana’s photographer Anna and I did some photo shoots and I got to exercise my “modeling skills” (Ha!) And thanks to Dana’s beautiful jewelry and Anna’s fabulous photography skills, we ended up with three great looks showcasing my personal style and Dana’s jewelry. (You can actually check out some of my other “modeling photos” on Dana’s website.)
Because each look we shot is totally different, I though it was best to break them up into three different blog posts – this one being the first. The next two will be posted over the next two weeks, so don’t forget to keep checking back.
In this look I’m wearing…
Necklaces: Large Pyrite Bangle Pendent
Earrings: Limited Embai Bangles
Ring: Chalcedony Cusion Ring
Bracelets: Diamond Layering Bangle & Pyrite Layering Bangle & Embai Bracelet
Forever 21 tube top (another colorblock top)
Bar III trousers (similar style)
No name pumps (similar style)
If you like what you see, don’t forget to stop by www.danarobinsonjewelry.com and pick up one of her amazing handmade pieces!
Disclosure: All jewelry was loaned to me for the shoot, and all the clothes are my own. I was given some jewelry as compensation for these posts, but the opinions expressed are my own.
